Another recent study found that gig-economy/sharing economy workers prefer the freedom and flexibility of self-employment as opposed to traditional employment.
The study commissioned by Freelancers Union and Upwork, found that in 2015, sixty percent of freelancers said they started freelancing by choice. This is a seven percent increase from 2014. Additionally, the study found that sixty percent of freelancers who left traditional employment reported that they earn more as a freelancer.
These results reaffirm other empirical evidence – discussed in a prior post – demonstrating the importance of the need to protect the legal recognition of independent entrepreneurs.
