Coalition Sends Letter Concerning FY2016 Budget Proposal to Appropriate $10 million to DOL Grant Program

In a May 20, 2015, letter to relevant Committee and Subcommittee Chairmen, the Coalition to Promote Independent Entrepreneurs urges that they not adopt a FY2016 budget proposal by President Obama to appropriate $10 million to the U.S. Department of Labor to fund a grant program “to reward states that have demonstrated a high level of performance or significant improvement at detecting worker misclassification and enforcing state UI tax requirements on employers who failed to properly classify their workers.” This proposal follows a DOL grant of $10.2 million to 19 states under a prior iteration of this open-ended authorization contained in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014, Public Law No. 113-76.
